Nutrition:

In both animals and people, there’s an old expression that says ‘you are what you eat’, and there’s no doubt that quality nutrition is one of the keys to a long and healthy life.

A proper diet helps prevents weight gain, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, food allergies, and a host of other easily avoidable conditions.

At Animal Health Hospital, we’d much rather prevent a disease than treat one, so from your first appointment with us, we’ll do everything possible to make sure your pet is getting the nutrition necessary to keep them healthy!

Vaccines:

Modern science has made it possible to avoid many of the serious diseases that in the past have plagued our pets, but it’s only possible to prevent these diseases by adhering to a program of regular and conscientious vaccinations.

At Animal Health Hospital we follow AAHA and AAFP recommendations for vaccinating dogs and cats.

This means that we vaccinate ONLY for the diseases that truly present a risk to your pet, and we will never vaccinate inappropriately or unnecessarily.

Heartworm Prevention:

Heartworms were not historically a problem in Southern Arizona, but recently, with the increase in the mosquito population, and the number of coyotes who carry the parasite, protecting your dog from Heartworm has become increasingly important.

An annual test, and taking Heartgardonce a month will prevent this potentially fatal disease.

Flea and Tick Prevention:

In addition to being generally disgusting, ticks spread diseases such as canine ehrlichiosis and babesia.

Fleas can cause severe skin irritation, itchiness, allergies, and can invade your home.

In severe cases both types of parasites can cause severe blood-loss (anemia), so at Animal Health Hospital, we provide our patients with Frontline, which prevents infection and kills these nasty parasites.
